A UK firm hopes its 'screaming' mobile phone security system will halt the spiraling rise in phone theft.
I saw this on television; while it will probably deter some casual thieves, organised serious thieves will get around it. I was intrigued at how well thought out it was though, with backups made for the rightful owner, and that the only way to to stop the screaming seemed to be to remove the battery. The great thing was that, as soon as the battery was reinstalled, the screaming began again. It would frighten hell out of me.

gambol:
to dance and skip about in play
I've had some difficulty gambolling in the last few weeks; I was in a fairly serious car smash, and broken ribs and punctured lungs tend to curtail the gambolling somewhat. Still, I'm amazed I'm alive. Pictures soon.

Mark Frauenfelder:
The folks at CartoonBrew describe an amazing mashup of classic films that was a true labor of love:
The visuals were achieved by printing out thousands of film frames (over 65,000 to be exact) and folding them into three-dimensional shapes. The paper-objects were then photographed and composited in After Effects.... The film is unlikely to ever find release in the US due to the fact that it uses unlicensed imagery from over 300 live-action features. But don't let that stop you from enjoying it online.

It's not a very good week.
James Hewitt, Princess Diana's former lover, very nearly lost
his penis in a strange window-related accident. He did suffer a
gash from his knee to his upper thigh requiring 27 stitches when
he fell through a plate-glass window at his vacation home...
Ho hum.
