One Million iPhones Sold - First Take. It's been nearly six years since the launch of the iPod and it took Apple the first two of those years to get to a million units sold. Today Apple announces they hit the one million mark in 74 days.
Bottom Line - One million phones sold for between $399-$599 (with the majority sold at $599) is impressive, in fact, phones at that price point just don't sell in those kinds of numbers here in the US (where carriers have taught consumers the value of a phone is $0). Key is, what's next?
1. On to Europe. Apple said they would announce European carriers this month and ship in Q4. News to follow is who the deals are done with, how those deals differ from the US and what, if any, changes are made to the device for the European maket.
2. The evolution of the OS X platform in handheld (and other) devices. We've already seen three new products from Apple that leverage the OS X platform that aren't called Macintosh. There's a whole play here leveraged around new applications, services and the like. Or to put it differently, there's an awful lot of room for new icons on both the iPhone and iPod Touch.
