I just came back from some free training on Macromedia products. Several individuals from my team at work were there, and the most valuable outcome of the entire experience, for me, was the little conversations that took place during breaks, whispered across rows, and at lunch. It actually reminded me of graduate school--sitting through lectures that had value, but really getting excited about conversations with peers during the breaks. Working on groups with highly motivated peers toward a common goal is a very stimulating experience.

So the question that comes to mind is not a new one: "How can I create an online environment that encourages the building of relationships?"

What is the essence of the experience I had at the workshops? I interact with people electronically on a daily basis, but sitting together with my peers was like an unexpected breath of fresh air. Aside from snide (put painfully accurate) comments about my needing to get out more, what else comes to mind for you?
