I've been keeping an eye out for other blogging tools that do much of the same stuff as Radio, just to get a feel for what is out there and what people think is important. For me, the most important features are:
- Automatic uploading of posts made to my local server (which obviously implies a local server)
- Being able to post to different locations based on category
- News aggregation
So, what have I found? Well, here is the brief summaries
Roller Weblogger: A server side solution written in Java, based on J2EE
Movabletype: Similar to Radio. It allows you to create weblogs, and post to different sites, but I didn't see a news aggrigation feature. Editing posts is done in straight HTML (not that there are ways around that). It also has some requirements for some server side components as well (such as perl and MySQL).
AmphetaDesk is a news aggregator. Looks cool, and if it had the ability to compose, categorize, and publish blogs, then I would use it in a heart beat.
Then there are hodge podge solutions, like Passport and Aggie. Passport has still to be released, and Aggie's interface is not the most integrated environment I've seen, still it does look functional.
So, my opinion. Radio is still the best.
