Columbia investigation board is accusing NASA of presenting complex information as power point slides, instead of detailed ink-and-paper technical digrams. In the process losing key information. I believe the same is true for the software industry, where drawing high-level diagrams is in vogue. There is more to software complexity than what can be captured using diagrams.
I am not suggesting that digramming is not useful. But it cannot be solely relied upon to capture the complexity of an enterprise system.
