While instant-messenger clients from Yahoo and Microsoft have begun promoting the use of webcams to stream video to buddies, AOL's Instant Messenger client has lacked this capability. Logitech plans to make available a free piece of software which will add voice to AIM, bundling this software, with its Quickcam line.
Why? "That's an easy one to answer," said Kevin Tregear, a product manager for the company's webcam line. "Think of the businessman on the road. Its' an easy way for him to keep in touch with his family."
On Aug. 30, Logitech will introduce an $99.95 enhanced Webcam for a notebook PC, including an integrated mounting device, an improved VGA CCD sensor, and MGI video-editing software. The current notebook Webcam costs $59.95, Tregear said.
Logitech will also add a $99.95 QuickCam Pro 4000 with a 1.3-Mpixel VGA CCD and 5X digital zoom for desktop PCs. More from Extreme Tech...
