Vignette launches V7. Updated content management system targets out-of-the-box apps [InfoWorld: Top News]
Here is an excerpt from the article. Empahis added is mine.
One new feature in V7 is a Virtual Content Repository that lets content reside in different places throughout the organization but be controlled from one integrated management environment. Rather than putting different data formats into a single repository, the Virtual Content Repository can point to varied information sources and display content in different portals and Web sites. <Editors note: Data can be entered ONCE and displayed in both an internet AND intranet. GREAT!!!>
"We want to let content reside where it is and then virtually bring it all together," Pedersen said.
The Virtual Content Repository is one of the most impressive features in V7, according to Frost & Sullivan's Carleton.
"The virtual data repository can tap into other companies' proprietary repositories and you can actually manage the content from that virtual repository rather than getting into interfaces for a variety of different CM systems," Carleton said.
During the next year, Vignette plans to deliver more packaged applications for portals, rich media, document management, e-learning, and e-marketing.
