Prefetch Files Depend on the Task Scheduler Service We published a couple of tips in previous issues that described how to remove files from the PREFETCH directory. Just a reminder: don't remove files from that directory unless your computer is starting up slowly. The goal of those PREFETCH files is to speed up your computer. But sometimes they don't work correctly or there are too many of them and that can slow things down. If you're not having startup performance problems, then don't delete them. One other thing about deleting those PREFETCH files - the Task Scheduler service must be enabled for this to help with startup problems. You probably don't have to worry about this unless you disabled it yourself. But if you did, and then you deleted your PREFETCH files, the files won't be created again and your computer will always start up slowly -- just the opposite of what you'd hoped to accomplish!
