Satellite Radio Wishlist
Scoble writes " I want to hook my cell phone up to my car stereo (the bleeding edge cell phones that MSFTies are starting to get have 3GB hard drives in them so can store quite a bit of music and podcasts)." and "what would it take to get an entire channel of podcasts?".
I'm an XM Radio customer, just because that's what came with my car. The variety of programming on XM is impressive, except for classical music (just "pops" stuff really).
Rather than a headphone jack in my car, though, what I'd like is the ability to upload MP3s to a personal folder hosted by XM, and then have XM broadcast the MP3s to a personal channel that I can hear in my car. I guess it's not all that different than broadcasting an FM signal from an MP3 player, but I still would like that feature. That, and BBC Radio One, are my two XM Radio wish-list items.
On the subject of music and phones, here's something I don't get... I have a phone with 512MB of memory (Nokia 6630 with expansion card). I sometimes listen to MP3s on the phone, usually on a train. When a phone call comes through, the music is paused and i take the call, still using the same headphones. Then, after the call ends, the music starts again. So, why would I want an iPod (or other MP3 player)? It would be "one more thing to carry", plus I'd be juggling the phone and iPod whenever a call came through (or else I simply wouldn't hear the phone ringing). And another thing I don't get: why an "iTunes phone?". Surely all you need is a phone with a large storage capacity and an MP3 player built in. That's what I have, and I don't see what I'm missing. Maybe all I'm missing is the Apple DRM lock-in.
