Here is a collection of impressions, facts, tidbits collected while on my last business trip. I should have been more diligent recording them:

  • Hong Kong:
    • There is a big hole on Queens Road: The old CRC building has been completely demolished
    • There is a new Ukranian restaurant along the escalator going up the Mid-Levels
    • It seems all the sellers of pirated software are gone from Sham Shui Po (Maybe they're all in Mongkok). Oh well… they'll be back there next week. ;-)
    • There is a new "Newfie themed" restaurant in Lan Kwai Fong: Stormy Weather. Excellent mussels.
    • I bough an excellent book on VB.NET at my favorite Hong Kong's computer book store. I'll read it on the plane on my way home tomorrow. It was expensive but available. Ever shop for computer books in English in Fukuoka? Good luck...
  • Seoul:
    • The quality of the shuttle service between downtown and the Inchon airport is still as bad. They can't guarantee a seat although you paid for a ticket. Just line up and hope…
    • There isn't as many people with dyed hair in Seoul than in Japan or China.
    • I love the system of underpass they have in SEOUL to cross busy intersections
    • They also have a very good system of clean public toilet. A lot of cities should take exemple on Seoul.
  • Beijing:
    • My wife joined me in Beijing for my first week-end there. It was nice. On Saturday we saw the Ming tombs and the Great Wall at Badaling. It was my third time on the wall but the first trip of my wife to the mainland of China. On Sunday we did Tienanmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven and the Summer Palace. Quite a run!
    • On Saturday night we went out with a couple of friends of ours to have some Beijing duck. Good but fatty!
    • We saw an add for a guy selling "Bottle putrified water". Do you want to buy that?
    • I had two days of fog. There is a lot to do to clean the air there before the Olympics.
    • They renovated the rooms at the China World Hotel: nice! They also get bonus point for the free high speed internet in the rooms!
    • I had a huge back pain on Thursday morning when I woke up. I could barely walk. I came back home on Saturday and finally managed to see a doctor about it yesterday: I have some arthritis on my 5th lumbar vertebra. Can't get surgery, it's too delicate. I'll have to live with the pain...

good leg. [Stuart Woodward's Recent Entries]

I had X-Rays yesterday. I wonder if I should put them on-line too. Can they be scanned with a normal scanner?
