I am finally back to Ottawa. More on the trip home later.
Yesterday my wife decided to vacuum clean a futon in the basement. She plugged the vacuum cleaner in the same circuit as the computers... The beaker broke the circuit, the UPSes kicked into action and I had only 4 minutes to reset the breaker... I went to the electric panel and searched for the faulty breaker and couldn't find it (I am not familliar yet with the panel of the new house, more on that later too). After 10 minutes of trial and error, I finally found it. It was labelled "Lights, living room". Grrrrrrrrrrrrr... Meanwhile the battery of the UPS was completely drained. I let the UPS recharge and rebooted the file server. A dreadful "click click click" could be heard and a warning message "Array in critical condition" left no doubt: one on my hard drive was busted. Thank goodness, it was a RAID 5 array: otherwise I would have lost everything... This morning I bought a new hard drive. I just finish installing it and the controller is rebuilding the array. Hopefully everything will be all right.
