I had the chance to play with my new lens last week-end. It is indeed a fast lens. The only disappointment is the bokeh. I was expecting it a bit nicer.
I find it is a bit soft with a flash, the edges are not as sharp as when user without a flash. Maybe it is due to a more uniform illumination. I also find that the colours lack saturation. I should compare the pictures taken with a small aperture with those taken with large aperture in more details.
I tested it in a very dark environment in shutter priority mode and it did a very good job. The pictures taken were brighter that those taken with my 28-80mm/f3.3-5G.

I got my two tape back-up units on Tuesday night. I found the right cables in my box full of cables. I should receive my tapes tomorrow. I'll try to mount the first one over the week-end in my dual P3-500 box running Gentoo. I want to use it to back-up the back-ups I make on disk so I can bring them to the office to be my "off-side back-up". I won't be using anything complicated, just tar.
On their web site, Sony canada wants 164.07$ for ONE tape. I'll pay mine 32.99$. Guess it pays to have a good dealer...
Since yesterday, I couldn't connect to my back-up server from any Windows machine. I thought something went wrong with the Samba daemon but no. After a quick "df -lh", I found ~/dead.letter weighting 19GB. I removed it and it started to work again. I wonder what made this file so big...
