Roundup: Atom 1.0 nearly final
Starting with a post from Tim Bray, the blogosphere and developer community has taken notice of Atom's final push to completion.
- SimpleBits: "RSS 2.0 and Atom 1.0, Compared"
- Dave Winer mentions the Tim Bray post and also points to Don Park's counterpoint. He followed it up later in the day with a mention of Adam Bosworth and Jon Udell posts too. Finally, Dave wraps it up with a mention of one of his last acts at UserLand--transferring the copyright of RSS 2.0 to Harvard.
- Rogers Cadenhead: "I'd Rather Fight Than Switch"
- Brent Simmons: "Atom 1.0 now soup"
Rogers makes an interesting point in his post regarding Atom's progress over the last two years. I had hoped that there would be more to see after two years of work, considering how much syndication prior art there was to choose from. I think the Atom framers did a great job of laying the foundation, but I don't see a compelling reason from a marketing standpoint to deploy Atom over the existing RSS 2.0 format. What I was most interested in was the Atom API and I don't see much of that any more.
