Lessig Blog writes about the wisdom in norway:
In a second, important defeat for the RIAA, and DMCA-defender types, Johansen was acquitted by a Norwegian court. And as the EFF is nicely publicizing, the principles on which this court in Norway decided the case might be familiar to those who remember our own constitutional tradition. As the chief judge said in reading the verdict, "no one could be convicted of breaking into their own property" and "consumers have rights to legally obtained DVD films 'even if the films are played in a different way than the makers had foreseen." The freedom to tinker in Norway is real. So too should it be so here.

Apple introduces X11 for Mac OS X: "Apple today introduced a public beta of X11 for Mac OS X, which allows X11-based applications to run side-by-side with native Mac OS X applications on the same desktop and makes it even simpler to port X11-based applications to the Mac. The free public beta of X11 for Mac OS X requires Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) and is available now from Apple's Web site. The final version is expected sometime later this year." Safari: "First entirely new application introduced today: Safari, a turbo browser for Mac OS X and the first major new browser in five years (sorry, Chimera). Jobs showed how wickedly fast it is, stacked up against IE, Netscape, Mozilla and Chimera (i think), rated by an independent benchmark firm. On Macs, at any rate, it's three times faster than Internet Explorer." [JD's New Media Musings]

Macworld: IE out, new apps and PowerBooks in: "At this morning's MacWorld Expo San Francisco keynote, Apple introduced a slew of new apps and expanded the PowerBook line to include 12" and 17" models (the first notebook with a 17" display), which are 802.11g and Bluetooth compatible. Perhaps of most interest is the fact that Apple will no longer be bundling Internet Explorer, and will instead include a new open-source Apple web browser based on Konqueror." [kuro5hin.org]
