Instant Hacking : Learn how to program with Python: "This is a short introduction to the art of programming, with examples written in the programming language Python." I recommend learning Python, I you have need for scripting or programming in general. Python is popping up everywhere from learning programming and mathematics to simulation environments. Last year I did some programming in Python, for example a code for drawing mazes. I was fun, and useful also. Here are two examples:
