Yesterday I received an evaluation copy of Office 2004 for Mac from Microsoft. The installation was easy, although starting up the applications the first time was quite slow. Also, the installation message up the fonts in Safari somehow, so I had to restart Safari. However, the installation did not require restarting the computer, which is nice.

For me the biggest bonus is the built-in spellchecker for Finnish, which was lacking in Office v. X. Also, Word can now handle filenames with more than 31 characters. This was an annoying limitation in the previous version.

I even tested the Entourage program for e-mail. Entourage seems to lack the nice learning spam filter of Mac OS X Mail, so a lot of spam gets throuh. Also, some of the keyboard commands are new to me. I tried, for example, to forward 400 spam messages, when I actually tried to classify them as junk mail.

Update: Ssp asked: "Did the program actually open 400 forwarding windows?" Well, Entourage asked if I wanted to do the action, and I clicked ok. And then it went on opening new windows. I killed the program when there were about 50 windows on the screen. But nothing was lost when I restarted Entourage.
