Hewlett Cites Progress on Quantum Computer: "Hewlett-Packard scientists Bill Munro and Tim Spiller have devised a new strategy for developing the quantum computer. [...] The leading technology in the field of quantum computing involves using trapped ions. Through its grant, Hewlett-Packard will also explore potential applications for quantum computing, particularly in the field of computer security."

Neanderthal Genome May Be Reconstructed: "German and U.S. scientists have launched a project to reconstruct the Neanderthal genome, the Max-Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology said Wednesday." I read on my vacation the science fiction books "Darwin's Radio" and "Darwin's Children" by Greg Bear. These were based on speculation about ancient human genes. The truth may be stranger than fiction, perhaps.
