K.C. Bolton: A new capability within Groove...and it works great
This posting is done entirely within a Groove space. It gets sent to the weblog I maintain automatically. The possibilities are limitless. Collaborative blogging, with the convergence of ideas great and small by space members.
The tool takes items posted in the Groove Discussion tool and posts it to the net to a Radioland blog page. Posts files too up to 1 meg in size. Tim Knip at Suite 75 (http://www.suite75.com/) developed this technological wonder and it certainly is that. Not too excited? Too ho-hum for you? Let me paint some scenarios:
*The set up is straight forward. Once set up anyone who can figure out Groove, and 99% of folks who use computers can figure that out, will be blogging in minutes. Zero need to know HTML code. Zero. This IS your father's weblog tool.
*A company can use this tool so that folks not running Groove can stay informed as well as those who do.
*Educators can host extended discussions with students and all they will need is a web browser. Since updates are embarrassingly simple it takes a huge burden off the educator in keeping the webpage current.
I see all sorts of social norms being formed just because of this one tool. Groove by its very nature is a secure environment and the spaces I am a member of are essentially sacrosanct. There is a certain level of trust imparted when becoming a member but stuff in Groove spaces stays there. With Tim's new tool some of the data is subject to exposure on the entire Internet. What happens if a space member posts an item that reflects poorly on the rest of the members?
Check out the public weblog that Jeroen Bekkers created for us who are members of a Groove space http://radio.weblogs.com/0119214/
I will return to medically oriented stuff in a few days. But for now its time to tip my hat to Tim, Jeroen, and Groove Networks. WELL DONE guys!
