Hey, have you guys seen the Apple iPod/VW Beetle commercial featuring music from the Polyphonic Spree?  I just about cried when I heard one of my fave bands (it's Tripping Daisy frontman Tim Delaughter's new project) on a TV commercial.  The only other time this has ever happened was when Pennywise's "Victim of Reality" played in the background of the I know what you did last summer...again, or whatever that sequel was called.

This weekend the cable modem ceased to work on Friday, due to my esteemed cable company deciding that they needed to muck with the local lines in my neighborhood.  Apparently, when they laid the original lines they hadn't counted on houses being built on my street.  So, when I signed up to get a cable modem they ran the line from the next street over and attached me to it.

Now that my street is full of houses and multiple people have cable modems and TVs set up they decided it was time to give our street its own backbone line.  Upside:  faster cable modem connections, better TV reception, and happier Ed.  Downside:  cable modem (but not TV, strangely) was out for the better part of Friday and Saturday and took my Vonage phone service with it!  Arggghhh!

Everything is settled now and we have a nifty new amplifier on our cable modem that the service tech left with us until they complete the crossover.  No idea when that will be.

On a different note, in a case of prescient planning on my part I spent an entire day 3-4 weeks ago backing up my mp3 collection which resides on a dual Celeron Shoutcast server in my closet.  This weekend, said server ceased working.  It was old and kinda screwy and I knew it was only a matter of time before it went to the great, big server farm in the sky.  And it seems kind of karmic that it died as soon as I got my old Latitude CPi notebook working, keeping the number of computers in my house in equilibrium.  Still, I'm glad that it didn't take my 9 GB of mp3s with it.  That would have been too much pain to bear.  So, gentle readers, the moral of the story is to back up your data!
