New 'entertainment' PCs restrict copying. CNet has an article about the "next generation" of PCs...specifically designed to limit their capabilities, particularly in the area of copying digital files. These guys just don't get it. This will not work. All you have to do is look at the history of DIVX in the DVD world, which was DOA. Anything that seeks to restrict user capability in order to favor (or otherwise line the pockets of) the entertainment industry is doomed for failure.

A miserable, rainy weekend in the NY area. By yesterday afternoon, I we actually agreed to take the kids to the Mall. It was just loaded with families doing the same thing....getting out of the damn house. That, combined with the need for most families to do their Fall school clothes shopping, made it an absolute madhouse. For what it's worth, by judging the crowds, I would say it's time to invest once again in The Gap.

The good news is, one more day until the first day of school. As one of my favorite commercials of all time (for Staples) puts it...."It's the most wonderful time of the year........"
