What the well dressed man will be wearing next year....

There was a great picture in the NY Times today that really summed up the feeling here in NYC yesterday, but unfotunately, I can't find it at the Times site. It was a shot of Grand Central Terminal at 8:46am yesterday, and I don't know if there was some kind of announcement or something, but everyone stopped dead in their tracks for the first moment of silence. If you've ever been in that place at that time of the morning, you know that it's a whirlwind of activity, with people going in every direction -- usually at a fast clip. To see hundreds of commuters just standing there and not rushing to their offices, etc., really hit home with me. If anyone can find a link to it, let me know.

iCal doesn't do it. Just some simple interoperability with Microsoft Outlook would have made this product a "must have" for so many. Unfortunately, it's a "ok to have" for relatively few.

HDTV in the Press
The Big Picture on Digital TV: It's Still Fuzzy. Eric Taub of the NY Times gets does a pretty good job of trying to clear up the "fuzziness." The thing that really fustrates me (and that he references) is the absolutely lousy job the "big box" consumer electronics retailers are doing with this. Talk about fumbling a great opportunity. They've got a chance to move some fairly high ticket items just by properly training their sales staff about this topic, but, I would bet 9 out of 10 sales drones in these stores have no idea what HDTV is, how you can get it, or what the benefits are. So what do they do? They make stuff up. It's confusing people and limiting the success of something that could have a great market.

Think that better picture quality is not enough to sell a product? Um....have you seen sales figures for DVD players lately? C'mon Best Buy, Circuit City, The Wiz...step up to the plate. The more you sell, the more you make. And the more you sell, the more HDTV will go mainstream...a good thing for those of us already waiting for that day.
