The AAP has allowed the maker of Similac formula to sponsor its Pediatric Book on Breast-Feeding as this story in the NY Times has it. Now, this may sound hypocritical coming from someone who's livelihood is primarily based on a sponsorship model, but I don't believe that this is a business that a Medical Society should be in. According to the story, the AAP profits by less than $500,000 in this deal. Is that really worth the ensuing mess that this will undoubtedly cause? Did anyone learn from the AMA/Sunbeam debacle?
