This weekend leading to the 4th of July is filled with musical attractions. The best bet for me looks like the show at the Cactus Cafe on Saturday night. Sam Baker is opening for Gurf Morlix. I haven't seen either one of these gentlemen in person and they have been on my list for some time now. I think we may try to get a group of people together to make the trek. Also, Love on the Lawn is looking promising with Ginger Leigh and Nina Singh among others. Time will tell what we do - we just have to do something.

Update on the blog business

Here is the rest of the story. If you read the post the other day you know that the old files comprising the RiverDogs Weblog are MIA. Well those old files are now officially dead. This is similar to my brother Bill burning his old paintings because he just didn't paint like that anymore. Long live the present. The past is now officially passed.

I picked up the BMW Saturday from my mechanic in Oak Hill. If you have been following along you know that I bought a 1978 BMW R100S in October. Several months went by while I was putzing around cleaning things and doing light maintenance on the bike. That changed in March when I took it to the shop for a new clutch and other assorted remedies. I rebuilt the carbs myself but since then it has been a labor of the decidely professional sort.

The latest changes were new tires and rear brake pads. While there I replaced the old fuel lines and fuel filters. Roger tuned the carbs, flushed and bled the brake system and pronounced it ready to go. Oh, he also found the source of the transmission oil leak and fixed that (something about the rear seal boot).

The ride home and every ride since has been nothing short of fabulous. The handling afforded by the new Michelin Macadam tires combined with the rear brakes that now actually stops the bike is superb. Now I can start building some confidence in my cornering ability. I don't know how long the old tires had been on the bike but long enough to lose their effectiveness. Riding is fun again.

I know I am on a classic machine when I ride the S. it begs a ton of attention from other riders, and from people in cars who know something about bikes. I like it for what it is. A bright white cafe racer with luggage. The bike is finally at the point where I feel like I could head out across the state or across the country and be sure that I would actually get to my destination. Does this mean the work is done? No. There are still a few more things to do, but they can wait till the gas savings put some money back in the till.

Happy riding. RiverDogs out for now.
