When the rain finally did hit us yesterday afternoon, I had already washed the bike and rolled it back under cover of the garage. That rain put a damper on the fireworks events in the local area. I suppose they still did their thing in Austin. I took the opportunity to clean up the work bench, organize all my tools and wax the bike. Not the best way to spend a holiday but it was my choice.

We talked to the vet on Monday and he suspects that Syd might be suffering from Cushings disease. This is fairly common in older dogs and while there is a treatment method it is a fine line between good and bad and requires considerable testing to ensure that it works. In a nutshell, Cushings increases the cortisone levels in the dog's body. Something about the pituitary and adrenals. Symptoms we see are increased water consumption, lethargy, pot belly, frequent urination, etc, etc. Treatment or not Syd may have two more years. That's the bad news. The good news is that life is pretty good right now.

I wish all people were as loving as our Syd. Just not the case...RiverDogs out for now.
