Weekend Wrapup

Let's start with The ACL Festival on Sunday and work backwards to Friday night - isn't this the standard blog thing anyway. We expected rain all day and didn't get wet at all until we were on the way home from Zilker Park. The entire experience at ACL Fest was the best that we have had in the five years of attending.

The musical highlight for both of us was seeing and hearing the Bodeans. What a great showcase of my oldtime favorites. The crowd was on their feet and bouncing, bouncing, bouncing. This is happy music at its very best. We moved around quite a bit. When we first arrived it was Kathleen Edwards with a full backing band. Very good. Through the afternoon and early evening, the best was Austin's very own Patrice Pike. Suprise new guy for me was Matt Costa. I will have to read more about him. Also good was the Sam Roberts band out of Montreal. KT Tunstall was just OK - sound problems plagued her set. And the New Pornographers left me with another just OK. Same goes for Son Volt - their music was pedestrian compared to some of the others we heard.

We parked 1/2 block from the bus route. And when we left at 8:40 (one song into Tom Petty's set - too many people) we were surprised to be on a bus and headed to the car at 9 PM. As we got off the bus, the rain started to fall. What great timing. We were home by 10 and we cleaned up real nice. Great experience.

The Leander football game was, well how shall I put it - pedestrian - yeah that's a good term for another pathetically-coached loss, 14-12 at the hands and feet of the mighty Bryan Vikings. We could and should have won this game. I will chalk it up to poor coaching, poor kicking, and no running game. This is going to be a long season for the local lackluster lions...

Saturday was in between Friday and Sunday and the most notable event was getting the bike to the repair guy for a new starter. We also went out to Wimberley to visit Ande. She wanted new shoes so we drove back into Austin and had lunch at a great Mexican eatery at the mall. Got her back to Wimberley by 2:30 and then we had to turn right around and head back to Leander. Lot of drive time on Saturday. Speaking of drive time, we then watched the Longhorns drive all over the hapless Rice Owls. Nice job horns, but can you beat a good college team. We will soon find out.

That's a wrap - RiverDogs out for now.
