TGIA - Thank God It's Austin...I'm back from the not so big cities of Macon and Tifton, Georgia. Nice enough just not where I want to spend a lot of time. I was there early in the week for some training sessions with the GA DOA (not the DOA that comes to mind but the aggie kind). After returning from Syracuse and our canceled flight last week, I have come to expect that it can happen any time, on any airline. None was canceled but i missed my connection in Dallas because of weather delays. I did make it home - just a little later than hoped.

There has been no time in the last week to tote my Rolleiflex about. I am anxious to run another roll through the camera and expand my capability. The learning continues almost daily and it is pretty exciting. I had some time this week to reflect on what I learned at photo class last Saturday. I have not shared any of the details with you. A photographer from NYC was here in Austin and 50 or so photographers were at his workshop on Pioneer Farm in Austin. The day was a series of live photo shoots with two scantily clad models posing amonst the antique farm implements and surroundings. Yes, it was fun, but not because of what you're thinking. The artist had a unique method of creating surreal pictures - shaping the light, overpowering the ambient with blasts of flash. Lot to learn.

I am listening to Wilco right now, the last songs from the yankee, hotel, foxtrot album from three years ago. Can you say masterpiece? Well that can be just about anything this band has done. Other than AM, their first effort after breaking away from Jay Farrar, everything else has been at the leading edge of Americana creativity. Kamera is playing right now - how appropriate for a convo on photos and picture taking. Life is good - hell no, life is great.

News from the home front - Katie tells me Ella is growing into a little chunk - she has gained three pounds in the last few weeks. That is great news - too tall and thin for her age. We have two wonderful, petite granddaughters - they can both use the extra weight. By the time we left Syracuse, Bella had worked up a better appetite and was showing more interest in several different foods. She is thin but strong like you can't believe. We carved some pumpkins with Bella while up there. She enjoyed that very much. She also enjoyed creating a hand puppet show at the science museum. She is a natural ham!

I will be on the bike today for the first time in over two weeks. The morning temperature is hovering in the mid 40's but the high today will reach 78 degrees. That is going to feel fabulous. I hope this weather holds through Sunday. The Rolling Stones are here on Sunday and we will see them for the first time in our lives. I am pretty pumped about their show. Los Lonely Boys and Ian McClagan and his band open for them. i will write about it on Monday.

RiverDogs out for now. Find a bone and bury it - never know when you're going to need another.
