Protest Songs. I picked up two CDs the other day in Borders. Then I bought them (haha). Steve Earle's Jerusalem and the Afgan Whigs album, 1965. Both are fine examples of exceptional music. I guess I am most surprised by the album from the Whigs. These guys were well below my radar until our trip to the Rubino's in Syracuse. John had one of their earlier albums there and I listened and liked it. So I bought this one. Jerusalem revives the protest song feelings of the 1960's and in that regard is a real winner. His (Steve Earle) views are not my views and I wasn't much of a protester back then either, but I know the value of a society that allows two sides to flourish. It is what makes us great, and what makes us a compassionate (and passionate) people.
