By the way, Dan got his FedEx package today, finally.  11:48:21 PM  permalink

Alright, there is this commercial on t.v. for some little mini sewing machine thing. I forget what it's called. "Handy-sew" or something like that. So they are talking about how if you order now you can get some extra amounts of thread or whatever, "so you can always have just the right color thread on hand!" But while they are saying this they show someone sewing something red with neon green thread. I guess neon green is the perfect color thread for red material. OK.

Ugh there's an awful commercial on now for some awful computer by Gateway called the "Gateway Profile 4" comparing it to the new Apple iMac, and of course claiming to be better. First of all, it's really really ugly. I mean, I can't believe they even show it next to the iMac because it's so bad looking, especially in comparison. Secondly, we looked up info on it and what they're claiming (not only that it's cheaper but also faster) just isn't true so it's ridiculous that they say it. It's cheaper than the most expensive version of the iMac, but it's not even comparable to the cheapest version. Anyway, commercials are obviously upsetting me tonight.

I'm really happy because it got cold again today. It was hot a couple days in a row and even this morning was still pretty uncomfortable. I didn't go out at lunchtime but by the time I left work it was really pretty cold and windy. Hooray. I'm ready for nice cool fall weather. I don't even mind winter weather... my only problem with the winter around here is that it lasts so freaking long! It doesn't get warm till about late May. That sucks.

Tomorrow my friends Deidre and Elaine from my old office are coming to my office for lunch because they haven't seen my new place. So that should be fun. Plus Pauline will get to meet them and she's heard about a million stories.

Then after work I'm going to Shannon's for a wine and cheese party - basically a cocktail hour type thing. I'll probably bring something to work to wear to that but wear something more casual during the day. It should be fun - there will be some friends there I haven't seen in a while plus Shannon's such a good hostess and I'm sure it will be a good time.

Rob and I might go to a movie tomorrow night after I get back from Shannon's... or we might be too tired and go to a matinee over the weekend instead.  11:47:48 PM  permalink

Oh my God what a freaking day (Wednesday).

First of all, both Rob and I were trying to get to work early today. He was going to drive me to the train but we were parked in by the other people who have a space in our driveway. So I went to knock on their door. Nothing. So I went to knock on their other door (because they were in the process of moving from right next door to the apartment below us). Nothing. So I went back again to the first door and then again to the second. So then I went to my cell phone where I thought I had their number from when they called me the other night. So I called that number and got their answering machine. Then I was so mad I started stomping around like a crazy two year old having a tantrum. I don't know if they heard the phone or the stomping but a minute later Sherine was outside moving their car for me. Then I felt guilty for throwing a spaz. But it was very frustrating.

Then, I got to work and there was a meeting for the BSA Task Force to End Homelessness. This is a group of architects and people from related professions who donate their time and efforts to help various non-profits such as homeless shelters, affordable housing, soup kitchens, food pantries, community service organizations, etc. Anyway, so I was at this meeting because I work with one of the co-chairs, John Wilson. There is this crazy guy who's been coming to them lately driving me nuts. He is a landlord and all he wants to do is complain about how it's hard to be a landlord and tell story after story about difficult tenants and things he doesn't like about Section 8 housing, etc. He's also a big huge conservative Republican. He started talking about how he had some meeting with Mitt Romney (Republican candidate for governer in Massachusetts for those who don't know), etc. It was awful. I wish he'd just zip it.

Anyway, then after the meeting my whole day was just crazy. Everybody needed something from me today. Accounting needed receipts from partners' business trips, people needed copies, people needed me to type letters, send packages, find things in obscure files, rearrange meetings and schedules endlessly, type letters from dictation, organize CORs (Change Order Requests) and print them out, etc., etc., etc. I got in at 8 and left at 6:45. That's an hour and forty five minutes of overtime, thank you. Oh, I'll be getting paid for that thanks. No garbage about them suggesting I take comp time. I don't think so.

Also, I had a whole big issue with FedEx. They make me so pissed. I sent a package to Dan on Tuesday. I sent it standard overnight by FedEx which means it gets delivered the next day in the afternoon. Dan lives in Worcester. I could probably walk there by the next day in the afternoon. So today I ask him how he likes his CD and he says he doesn't have it yet. So I call FedEx and they claim they made an attempt today and yesterday both at 2:30pm. But too bad they didn't leave him a note either time and he was home both days at that time. Also, they are idiots because they had his street address but not apartment number in their system even though I put it on the package. The next problem is the fact that they are waiting to get him for a signature. I didn't request a signature on the package. But apparently the signature option is now an opt-out thing. If I want them to leave it if he's not home I have to specifically tell them so.

But the problem with that is that the box that I have an option of checking says "signature required". Now if it's the fucking default why do I have it as an option? How does that make any sense? How about if my option is "no signature required"??? I am constantly astounded by people's stupidity.

Then I came home and Rob was mad at first because I was late and he hadn't gotten my calls because his cell phone was dead and the charger in the car spontaneously stopped working. But then he wasn't mad at me but he had a really bad day and probably will quit his job tomorrow. I can't even begin to get into that. His place is unreal. It's unbelievable.

So it was just a stellar day all around!  12:10:05 AM  permalink
