Hey, Shooter, buckle down and study your pants off!

Today Rob came downtown wiht me and went to get Starbucks while I went to work. He hung out and did some writing and reading in the morning then we had lunch together - Au Bon Pain sandwiches. Then I went back to work and he went home... he called me about fifteen minutes later to say he didn't have any keys so he had to come back downtown and I had to meet him at South Station again to give him my keys. Oops! It was pretty funny. It must be senility setting in since he turned 29 today.

I forgot to tell this story about our cats. Don't read it if you've recently eaten.

Today at work it was announced that the management committee decided that for the whole month of December we could dress "business casual". That's nice I guess except it's actually just confusing for me. To me, business casual means for guys no tie necessary, but slacks and button down shirts or something, and for gals, slacks and button-downs or sweater sets or something. Well, this is already how everyone dresses every day except when they have an important meeting, so I just don't know what this directive means. Maybe they mean more casual even, like we can wear sneakers and chinos? I have no idea. It's just strange because to me dress codes are so subjective because the same rules don't apply for both men and women. Well, I guess we'll see what people do with it.

Happy Birthday, Rob Reed!  11:36:47 PM  permalink

So Rob and I went to his mom's for Thanksgiving. We left Wednesday around 6pm. Luckily my office closed early Wednesday - at 3pm. Of course, that means I left at 3:30, but that's still a lot earlier than 6. So I came home and we did some quick packing (Rob had already done a lot of stuff), left the cats a lot of food and water, and headed out with the dog to get him to the kennel by the time they closed at 6pm.

When the guy came out of the back to get Billy he didn't want to go with him and acted like a big baby. He tried to hide behind me and/or sneak away by going behind me and he stuck his foot in the waistband of my pants and started pulling them down in his frantic efforts to escape. That was special. Nothing crucial was exposed, but definitely too much skin for the lobby of the kennel. But in the end he went not that unhappily and with a blanket and a pig's ear, the last compliments of the kennel.

So we had a pretty uneventful drive. Only ran into snow near the end, and the roads weren't bad until we were on the local roads right by Rob's mom's. (Even then not too bad.) We got in just before midnight and his mom was up cooking and preparing things for Thanksgiving the next day. She stayed up with us for a while then we all went to bed pretty late - around 2:30 I think. We slept till 9 something the next day and his mom made us breakfast - eggs, toast, and bacon - which was nice. We had Thanksgiving dinner around 2pm I think. Rob's brother Jim, his wife Heidi, and their daughter Kathryn who is about 2 and a half, came. The food was good, and everyone ate too much, and then we had cherry and apple pie and everyone ate too much of that too. We went to bed not terribly late - maybe 11 or so. At like 3am I woke up because Rob was coughing and choking. He got up and went to the kitchen and got a drink of water. I followed him trying to figure out what was going on. He asked me to get him soda so I did and he drank some of that. Finally he said he thinks he started to throw up or at least he had stomach acid in the back of his throat and woke up choking on it. Poor guy! That's what I thought when I first woke up but wasn't sure. Anyway, he had a very hard time feeling better and getting himself back to sleep. We were up and half awake half asleep for about 3 more hours. Finally he felt better or wore himself up and went back to sleep. We slept in really late - just about noon. That day we lazed around for a while. We went to the mall near his mom's house to find some Bavarian pretzels (soft pretzels). There is a whole drama about how we can't find that kind anymore because everywhere there is usually an Auntie Anne's, which is a different greasy kind. I kind of like those too, but they are totally different from the old school kind - the kind Rob likes too. Anyway, so we found some at the mall, and bought and ate 6 small ones! Then we went back to his mom's and lazed around the rest of the day. We were thinking of leaving that night but didn't end up doing that. We just had to make sure we got back in time to pick up Billy at the kennel on Saturday, and the kennel was only open 8am - 1pm. Jim came over with his other daughter, Jamie Lee, Friday evening and we had leftovers for dinner. We stayed over another night so we could watch the all-new Muppet movie that was on, and left around 6am Saturday morning.

We got home in plenty of time to get our Billy. The three of us got home and were very exhausted. Rob and I could hardly move around and after initially being excited, it seemed that Billy also had the same problem. The combination of getting up so early and doing nothing for a couple days made us so tired and screwed up. Plus I think Rob had a fever on Saturday night. By Sunday it was gone.  12:16:28 AM  permalink
