Rob and I had dinner at Clarke's. I left work at 5:30 because I took a really short lunch today. So we were heading home by 6:30, which was great. Now we're just hanging out for a bit. Rob is about to play James Bond 007 on the Gamecube. I'm going to do the dishes in a bit because they're so gross. First, I'll list more things people can buy me for Christmas! Isn't everyone excited about this? I know there is a line of about 20 people just dying to buy me gifts, so this is really a public service.

Amber earrings, pearl earrings, heart locket, garnet necklace, from Red Envelope
Earrings, necklace, Banana Republic
My Wish List at Amazon.com. If this link doesn't work, just go to Amazon.com and search for me by name in the "Wish List Search".
This really sweet shower head and bathroom shelf from Target.

I guess that is enough for now. Wow, I sure hope I win the lottery soon.  8:26:50 PM  permalink

I know, I am a loser for not posting all weekend.  We were pretty busy and because of cleaning and furniture rearranging, a lot of the time our laptop wasn't online.

So... Saturday Rob and I went to the movies because in December Showcase Cinemas in the area show "Christmas Classics" on Saturday mornings for free, you just bring a donation of non-perishable food for the Boston Food Pantry.  We saw It's a Wonderful Life.  Somehow I went till something like last year without ever seeing this movie.  Probably because I usually refuse to watch old black and white movies.  It's a holdover from childhood when black and white = old and that was all I cared to know.  Anyway, this movie is great.  First, for all the obvious sappy reasons, but also there are so many issues... like why is anyone surprised when poor George Bailey finally has a breakdown?  He doesn't get anything his way for his whole life - he never ever gets a vacation, doesn't get to go to college, has to work at a place he basically hates, gets stuck in the podunk town he grew up in, doesn't even get a honeymoon, etc.  I'm surprised he made it as long as he did!  Second, when he has his little breakdown there are just so many entertaining things about it... I love that he curses out his daughter's teacher on the phone, calling her a stupid woman for sending children out in the cold "half-naked" (she didn't button her coat).  I love that he says to his wife Mary, "You call this a happy family?  Why did we have to have so many darn kids anyway?"  And then when he really loses it and starts yelling at the kids, even though it's not that bad, they are all stunned and terrified and their mom doesn't smooth things over, but instead says, "George, must you torture the children?  Why don't you just leave?"  It's fantastic.  Such dysfunctional family craziness!  It's very fun.

Anyway, so that was fun.  Then we drove aimlessley around trying to be spontaneous about what to do for lunch, but that's not a good plan in the city in a car because you are prevented from going most places due to the fact that there is no parking.  We were only driving because the theatre we went to is in the suburbs so we had the car.  We finally went to the foodcourt at the Cambridgeside Galleria and ate Au Bon Pain, which was OK but not that exciting.  And we had to pay for parking.

Then we went home and after a short time I left to meet Shannon at the salon to get my hair cut, then we had plans to get drinks and food afterwards in honor of her birthday, which was on Sunday.  I was running very late for my appointment thanks to Rob Reed, which he would try to deny (in Rob Reed lingo 5 minutes actually means about a half hour... he said he would be ready in 5 minutes and although it was more like 30 minutes, I was not allowed to be mad at him).  Anyway, it turned out OK because Shannon had her appointment before mine so I was actually just in time as our stylist was finishing up with her color.  So I got my hair cut, which was very fun, and I have reincarnated my bangs.  Not stupid bangs, but nice ones that fade into the rest of my hair so I can wear them more on or off the face.  Randomly, when we went outside they were firing pyrotechnics off at the Pru.  We had no idea why, and I actually still don't.  I guess I should try to find out.  Shannon's boyfriend Brad had showed up to hang with us for a little bit - we went to Vox Populi on Boylston.  It was still early so no crowded.  We went to the upstairs diningroom (there's a bar downstairs that gets pretty busy around 9pm) and had a really nice dinner.  We each got an appetizer, then Brad left.  Shannon and I split a main dish of filet mignon, which was the best steak I've had in a long time.  The place is a little pricey but not too bad.  We talked for a while, finishing our wine, after we ate.  Then we worked our way over to Blue Cat where we had one more drink.  We stopped on the way to pick up a couple things at Walgreen's and Urban Outfitters.  We both went home after Blue Cat.

Rob had been at BAMHA doing work most of the time I was gone and had managed to not eat dinner, even though he knew I was eating with Shannon so he was hungry and whiney when I got home.  Nobody knows why Rob Reed does this except maybe Heather.  I think he has a mental block.  In the end, he gave up on having dinner a while after I got home because it was late and there was nothing open and nothing in the house.  But he was a GROUCH.  Again, not my fault, because he knew I was eating without him.

Sunday we tried to get moving early but didn't get moving all that early.  We just didn't get out of the house that quickly.  We went to Starbucks and had pastries and coffee and tea while we tried to plan our day and run through our enormous perpetual "to-do" list.  We ended up going home after that, picking up and cleaning for a while, I can't even remember what we did for lunch.  Oh, we had BK.  No fries though!

Anyway, we have a brand new clothes dryer in our basement, which rocks.  Ours has been broken since we moved in and would only dry on the highest setting, which is only really acceptable for about 2 things - towels and sheets.  So we kept going to the laundromat or else hanging wet clothes all over the house, which really sucks.  So we did several loads yesterday and should be caught up soon as long as we keep doing a couple of loads a night.  It's awesome.

So we ended up staying in last night and decided that we'd try and have a night out to a movie or something this week since we didn't really do much of anything out of the house this weekend, at least not together.

It is colder than cold here.  The wind chill today is 11 degrees Farenheit.  No thanks.  It's that thing where you walk outside the the cold is painful to any exposed skin, your snot freezes instantly, your eyes sting, etc.  It's harsh.  If you had wet hair it would freeze immediately, etc.  And I have the lovely Fort Point Channel to cross on my way from the train into work.  That's FAN-TAS-TIC.

Well, Rob had a meeting with a recruiter/headhunter today at 3 and it was OK but mostly bad.  Those people are just so sleazy.  Apparently, they are advising Rob to call them a couple of times a week to see what's going on.  Shouldn't they call him?  Why don't they just do their job?  Stupid.  Well, we'll see.  He also got a call about a part-time job which, depending on pay, etc., might be OK with his other part-time job that he's been doing on his own this year.  So he has to call that person back tomorrow.  They always wait till the end of the day to call for some reason.

Anyway, this won't get posted till tonight but I'm at work now and I just finished my timesheet and Tom Payette's timesheet (he doesn't interface well with computers) so I need to pick them up from the printer.  Rob is waiting at South Station to meet me because his meeting was downtown.    7:49:21 PM  permalink
