So, that's it - we sold our car. We went to the dealer's on Saturday and got an estimate from them for what they'd give us just to sell it back to them (not trade-in). It was reasonable, though less than what we could get by selling directly, so we were still trying to decide what to do. An appealing part was that if we sold it to them, we would just give them a check for the difference between what was owed on the loan and what the dealership was going to pay for the car, and then the dealer would work out getting the title, etc. and we'd be done. However, we decided it was worth trying to sell to someone directly because we could get maybe a couple of thousand dollars more. So, Saturday night late we posted the car on ebay. We got a lot of questions from people today about it and a lot of people were interested - but then out of the blue, someone who hadn't asked any questions used the "Buy It Now" (you can set a price at which someone can buy it immediately and not have to go through a bidding war) option and bought the car. A few minutes later we got an email from the guy, and were a little concerned because he was in Arizona and we had said we wouldn't ship anywhere, but would drive a reasonable distance or obviously anyone could come pick it up. But his email said he'd make "any arrangements" to get the car and that it was his daughter buying it. So, I called him and one of the first things he said was that he had bought several cars on ebay over the years and he wasn't "some yahoo from Arizona" and that he'd take care of sending a shipping company to pick up the car, etc. So that was good. He seemed like a good guy and like he knew what he was talking about. He also said his daughter was really happy to get the car because she recently had an accident and her car was totaled... that she really wanted a Jetta but didn't think she could afford one, so it was great for her to find ours. (Ours is cheaper because it has a little minor body damage and high mileage.) So tomorrow he is supposed to be in touch with me about details. We need to transfer money around tomorrow to pay off the loan and get the title. Hopefully everything will work out smoothly and we'll have no problems... everyone keep their fingers crossed! Of course, I'm sure that soon I'll be complaining about how it's a pain not to have a car. But if I do that, someone just remind me that it was costing us almost $600 a month on a good month... thanks. Oh, also, what the hell was up with the Super Bowl? Kind of sucked, huh? 12:28:53 AM
