Long time no post...
Well, my story is a sad one, but it has a happy ending. We accidentally deleted my Radio Userland file, where this site lives on our laptop. We thought all was lost, but thankfully someone responded to my post on the discussion board and got everything back where it belongs. (Thanks Lawrence!)
So, there is much to catch up on.
1. The guy from Arizona crapped out on buying the car.
2. So, we contacted this girl from RI, a college student, who had been interested.
3. That didn't work out because she had to suddenly return to Japan for an unspecified amount of time.
4. In the end, we all stopped being freaking idiots and Rob's mom bought the car. She had totaled hers in December so none of us know why we didn't think of this earlier. She should have a check for us this week and we're bringing the car up to her ASAP.
So we've been broker than broke while waiting to resolve the car thing because we had to shell out so much money to pay it off. Plus we've had enormously expensive cell phone bills due to roaming charges and over-the-limit minutes. So we're changing cell phone plans. We've got a hiptop/sidekick from T-Mobile. We actually found it cheaper somewhere else right after we bought it - free, actually, with mail-in rebates - so we're returning it and cancelling service (we can do that within 14 days) and then buying it from the other place (Amazon.com) and reactivating service in Rob's name instead of mine.
So we actually got our new one yesterday and we're happy to have it back in the house. It's really cool for email and instant messaging. Plus, of course, it's a phone.
Anyway, I will be back to faithfully posting now.
I'm thinking of starting a special section devoted to when local news covers something that's not news to anyone. Like the other night they had a big "expose" about how kids are drinking cough syrup to get high. Um yeah. Since cough syrup contains a lot of alcohol, I'm pretty sure that about the first kid that took some whenever the first cough syrup came out, which I would guess is over a hundred years ago, figured out that it made him high, so I am pretty certain this is not an interesting news story. There was a girl in my high school choir who carried a bottle in her cool denim purse at all times so she could get a buzz at school. Nice. She also frequently sported those oh-so-cool hair wraps in colored thread. Sadly, these are supposedly back in fashion. I feel old. Oh, but wait, since I went to high school in rural Ohio I'm sure that everyone else my age was way beyond denim purses and colored thread in their hair in about 5th grade.
So I heard from an old friend, Mike, that I recently got back in touch with but hadn't heard from in a few months. He just wrote the other day. Fortunately all is well now, but his dad had a crazy accident back in the fall involving being crushed by a train. Somehow he is fine. I'm really glad - how scary! Well I guess now it is a great story to tell the grandkids someday. He'll be able to tell it to top Mike's story about puking 27 times in one day from drinking contaminated water on our first ASP trip.
So my mom and brother visited for President's Day weekend. Too bad for them The Blizzard of 2003 also visited! We got officially something like 27.5" of snow in Boston. Mom's flight got delayed by a day but because the weather was crazy we didn't do anything exciting for the extra day - just watched TV in the apartment. Sorry, Mom! But that was at the end of the weekend, so until then we had fun. Although the first couple of days it was below 10 degrees. And then it "warmed up" to the 30s so it could dump over two feet of snow. I love New England.
I think that's enough for tonight. I'm not going to try to really catch up for the last month, just move on from here. Oh, here's a little weblog Rob's able to make from our hiptop. I'll add it to my permanent links on the page.
