Visit from the Queen of France

Miss Heather Rose Martin is coming to visit us this week. She's on her way to Cornell for a summer vet program there, and has a little time in between. She'll be here Friday for several days. The luckiest one here will be Billy the dog as he will get extra walks to the park!

I'm sure most of her time will be taken up buying pink things and tormenting us with unreasonable demands, which is why she is called The Queen of France. Ha ha, Heather.

Not A Choice

I learned the phrase "not a choice" from Amy. She spent some time working with toddlers in Charlotte, NC, and she has the pre-school talk down pat, much like my mom, the pre-school teacher turned Head Start administrator. Anyway, here is how you would use it. Say Molly, a 2-year-old, wants to run around the room eating a cracker. Well, that would be messy so you tell her, "You can either choose to sit in your seat and eat the cracker, or you can choose to go and play. You choose." Or something to this effect. Then when Molly gets up with the cracker and tries to take it with her, you tell her, "That's not a choice, Molly." Anyway, thanks to Amy I now use it all the time to basically mean that something is totally unacceptable.

So for today, here is my list of things that are not a choice:

1. The local news. Stories about the scandal of finding an extra $5,000 in some town's budget that was "wasted" on cell phone bills for employees is not news that anyone is interested in.
2. Creepy youngish guys hanging out in groups that say things like, "Hey baby, I love you baby, you're so beautiful" when you walk by. Not looking beautiful.
3. As always, crazy people on the T.
4. The fact that it is 1am and I am awake.
5. The movie "Pirates of the Caribbean", due to come out this summer. I think I've already mentioned this before, but it bears repeating.

Oh yeah, check out Heather's updated website. Redesign courtesy of Rob Reed. Want Rob Reed to design your weblog? Go to his site and tell him so! Sorry, no free labor. We need cash. Goodnight.
