TREBIC Pig Poultry and Politics Dinner

Enjoyed some good eats this evening.  And, got to hob nob with local notables.  Not sure if Mayor Holiday shook my hand and said "hi Jim" because he really remembers me or he is just a fast read on name tags.  I'll give the nod to the former.

Libbys, Tom Bailey, his driver/State Senate candiate Rusty Sheridan, and formerly prolific Rhino Times letter page solon Walt Sperko all showed up for our team.  (Walt's been still writing away, but I had to explain to him he needs to start copying managing editor, Rachel Bailey who really runs the show on the letter's page these days.)

Dan O'Shea, General Manager of Fairway Outdoor Advertising just happened to be the first guy standing right there as I entered the room.  He thanked me for my pro letter on billboards which the N&R recently published.

Our sons were in the same class last year and I never made the connection he was that O'Shea.  Dan also had a great story to detail about his relatives who fought in the Battle of Alamance on the side of the Regulators.  Forget the implications of the word there,  the Regulators were on the right side in this one trust me.  We need more men like them today.

Later, while I wolfed on some great pork BBQ and chicken, John Blust weighed in with some commentary as to the dismal third-world state our election process has fallen to.  I suspect he may be ready to sign up for the area's New Regulators.  The quote involved the use of guns, but since John does not recognize me as even just a blog guy, let alone a reporter that might quote him, I will leave it at that.

TREBIC (the real-estate and builders association) is (shock) supporting Amendment One and all the Bonds on the ballot.  That's the official position.  But my straw poll of grass-roots membership indicated something like a 50/50 split.

In fact, Mike Winstead opponent/developer gave a noble defense of why Amendment One is just not necessary if you are a competent and skilled  developer. Other than being a Republican, which means at some point he could go over to the dark side, I still need to find that decisive item that people can clearly differentiate us on.  For the time being, I pledged to focus more of my campaign figuring out how to win votes from Mike Barber's side of the ledger.

Sidebar:

County comish candidates known to be against Amendment One:  Capo, Winstead, Gibson.

County comish candidates known to be for Amendment One: Barber, Perkins.

Best Quote of the Night:

"We need to put the Greene (with an e) back in Greensboro"
