Election Day (one of many)
1) Only two poll workers signing everyone in. 2) Voters having to read, understand and decide on the three ballot Amendments. While voters had to stand around Rusty Sheridan (running against Kay Hagan and somebody else) and I were pounding the pavement at Battleground and Cornwallis working for votes.
Rusty and I got predominately good reactions from the drive bys. My 3 second sound bite was, "I'm working for your vote, not making you pay for it." This I said as I slipped curious drivers and passengers an important notice I produced on County of Guliford letterhead. As I was breaking down our set up to go home, the last car to stop was a small red pickup truck being driven Register of Deeds candidate Jeff Thigpen. Jeff got a real kick out of yet another letter being circulated on County letterhead. (I explained to him that I had to leave is name off the list of County of Guliford Commissioners because I expected him to win his race for Deeds and I have no clue who the Democrats will appoint to fill his seat on the Board.)
As I got out of my car to snap the shot, the Grim Reaper shouted out, "You're Jim Capo?" I wishfully insert that question mark there because while I acknowledged that I was Jim Capo, as I shook the Grim Reaper's hand to introduce myself, he insisted that he was THE Grim Reaper. Nothing more. It is certainly a bit disconcerting to discover the Grim Reaper knows your name but you don't know his. Perhaps the downside of a successful name recognition campaign? )Hey maybe this guy was Mr. Sun in disguise?) For now, I'll leave the question mark in there so I can sleep peacefully tonight (but not too peacefully). 11:16:47 PM |
