Re: Deaf Awareness Committee - Candidates Forum: September 21, 2004

If time permits, please read the following statement (with any editing required) at tonight's forum:

Jim Capo was scheduled to be out of town in South Carolina this week and unfortunately cannot attend tonight's forum. He would like the following brief statement read.

Thank you for the invitation to tonight's forum. The invitation to a third party candidate was greatly appreciated. I apologize for not being able to attend. Regarding the issues that will be discussed tonight, I can say that, in general, members of the Libertarian Party believe that the best solutions to critical issues in our community are arrived at through the voluntary co-operation of concerned people. Where governmental entities present themselves as a barrier to effective change we need to petition them to step out of the way and allow citizens an encumbered path forward. In the cases where the coercive use of governmental authority is presented as the ONLY solution to a problem, we should be ever vigilant to the pitfalls of unintended consequences. Long-term, constructive, mutually agreed upon ,voluntary action is the more consistent, reliable and personally rewarding course to take.

For my positions on specific issues or to query me on your specific concerns please visit my website at www.jimcapo.com .

Thank you for your time in allowing this statement to be read. Please enjoy your evening.

Best Regards,

Jim Capo

Candidate
