The Art of Blogging.

George Siemens writes insightfully about blogging. I am looking forward to Part 2 on the 6th. Thanks to Doc for the link.

The Art of Blogging-Part 1
Overview, Definitions, Uses, and Implications

Blogging is using a new medium for what it is good for - connecting and interacting. Blogging is a first generation tool built on, and taking advantage of, the unique attributes of the Internet. It has been dismissed as a self-centered passing fad...and as the new model of interactive journalism, communication, and learning. This article explores the the uses, benefits, implications, and art of blogging.

Practice & Theory of Blogs, cont'd.

tSuibhne begs to differ a bit with George Siemens about blogs being a New Thing:

I see blogs as a continuation of the zine culutre. The next logical step. Not as something that is completly new. To simply view blogs as an isolated incident that has no predecessors is to ignore its past.

Interesting, but It Just Illustrates The Supremacy of Librarians.

GooglePeople

"Welcome to GooglePeople! Try one of the example questions, or let your imagination go wild!

GooglePeople shows that with simple, yet effective, text mining techniques, answers to specific questions can be extracted from the vast Google data repository.

GooglePeople is surprisingly accurate, but in some cases it will not be able to find your answer. It will have trouble if the answer is:

  • not on the Web - for example, "Who was the assistant grip for Terms of Endearment?"
  • subjective - for example, "Who is the smartest person in the world?"
  • an unusual or non-Anglo name - for example, "Who is the King of Thailand?" " [via JD on MX, via GoogleBlog]

Lots going on up here. We've bought a new vehicle, at least new to us and are going to be moving into a house. Seems that our 950sq. ft. apt isn't big enough with 4 adults and the coming arrival of our 18 mo. old grandson. We're going to miss living downtown and will now become commuters on the excellent public transportation system here in Denver.
