A good overview of enterprise IM by Cathleen Moore. Jon Udell talks about how Jabber can expose edge services:

With Jabber, [Web Services] can be made available in a location-transparent way.

Jabber also anticipates the XML routing features (for example, WS-Routing and WS-Referral), which are now on the Web services drawing board. "The presence-related aspects of Jabber can make routing and rerouting intelligent," says Jabber Council's Adams.

Jabber seems like a great platform that could co-exist with other IM players. Jabber doesn't seem to attempt to create an IM killer app, but rather focus on custom solutions. They focus more on licensing the platform to big companies for their in-house IM projects. Another take on widely debated issue of how to sell a platform.

Mail-to-weblog seems to be the only real way to contribute to weblog from different machines. I'm puzzled why Dave and Co still have not implemented the obvious functionality of being able to access weblog editing UI directly from http://radio.weblogs.com ???
