CNET: Microfoft to offer peek at new tools

Some details on future C# features in VS.NET. Visual Studio .Net for Yukon will be released after Everett, so the C# improvements will not appear in the short term.

That release of Visual C# will include four new features: support for "generics," which is a form of a C++ template that can help C# developers build software more quickly; support for "iterators," which help developers create new code; anonymous methods, which ease development of what’s known as "event-driven" code; and support for "partial types," which make it easier to use C# for building large projects.[NEWS.COM]

TPC launch

With Launch of Tablet PCs, Pen-Based Computing Is a Reality [Microsoft PressPass]

At Tablet PC launch yesterday Productivity's Jeff Raikes talked about how tablet PC targets "information worker". This marks for me a subtle, but important departure from the term "knowledge worker" that was used earlier to describe all their customers. It seems that Jeff Raikes groups need to separate the two groups of users. Part of the reason is hard-core Office users still need keyboard. I've noticed how they didn't show character recognition during numerous demos. All of the user scenarios Jeff R. and others were showing turned around people who consume and annotate information as oppose to produce it.

Think about what you do most of the day with your PC. If a large part of what you do centers around producing, Tablet PC (at least slate form factor) might not be the ideal choice.

As Larry O'Brien writes TPC needs new kinds of applications. The balance of things may change with new kinds of applications.
