Congress, in true democratic fashion, is attaching national identification rules to the budget bill to pay for the war in Iraq (oh, wait a minute, it's not a war -- Congress never declared one). In order to get a drivers license, you will have to submit more information than is currently required to buy a gun (well, autos do kill 50,000 plus a year). The states, of course, will pick up the tab. Congress set to impose ID card rules.
WASHINGTON -- Congressional negotiators have agreed on a sweeping new
system that would nationalize standards for driver's licenses and state
identification cards, requiring states to verify the authenticity of
every document that people use to prove their identity and show their

So much for the new drivers' license law signed here in Georgia. The
lines will get longer as drivers license clerks will have to check with
issuing authorities to verify:
And, this event explains Choicepoint's acqusition of EzGov, which does license renewals. Choicepoint will become the de facto vendor for drivers license renewals... The plot is much clearer now. Oh, and your state will be required to keep copies of these records for 7 years. Has anyone checked their state's data security lately? But, I forget, Choicepoint will protect that data, won't they? |
