Author and consultant Edward Yourdon is releasing a book on Offshoring in October entitled "Outsource:Competing in the Global Economy Race." An Infoworld article notes:
The U.S. government, however, could employ at the local, state and federal strategies such as greater investment in education, combined with reform of the public school educational system, and investments in "lifelong education," particularly for adults who find that the university training they received is no longer relevant, according to Yourdon, who also recommended a change in U.S. tax and accounting rules to encourage long-term corporate investment in workers and productivity improvement
A group led by the California Chamber of Commerce says that a slurry of bills designed to protect state jobs from offshoring could in fact result in retaliation and higher cost of services.
The San Jose Mercury News reports:
Alan Zaremberg, president of the California Chamber of Commerce, said the anti-offshoring bills would restrict the free flow of goods. ``We feel it's not the facts that are driving this legislation, but fear,'' he said.
As many as 25 percent of California's jobs are connected with trade, and interfering in free markets with protectionism would cost more jobs than it would preserve, Zaremberg said.

e-Wireless
Athens Banner reports on UGA group experimenting with effects of wireless cloud on commerce in downtown Athens.
"There are other Wi-Fi zones; we knew how to do that ..." said Lance Koenders, who works on business development for Intel's communications services.
