"My interview with Howard Rheingold. I interviewed Howard Rheingold about his new book, Smart Mobs, for TheFeature. Link Discuss" [Boing Boing Blog]

I found this web site the other day.  Can't wait for the book to hit the shelves.  Seems to be a discussion of the mob behavior of humans, and how it might be affected by personal, location-based information services and communications.

R. Buckminster Fuller. "Everything you've learned in school as "obvious" becomes less and less obvious as you begin to study the universe. For example, there are no solids in the universe. There's not even a suggestion of a solid. There are no absolute continuums. There are no surfaces. There are no straight lines." [Quotes of the Day]

A correlation of this is something I've noticed about myself and others:  The more education one gets (either formally, or through the "school of hard knocks"), the more one is aware of how little they actually know.  Assuming, of course, that the individual has any self awareness at all.

"Wireless around the world: I'm collecting the terms of wireless in various languages. In German, drahtlos; in Danish, the similar sounding trådløs. Dutch: also similar, draadloos. Several Francophones noted that the French phrase is sans fil. More, please!"

"WiFi Trek badges. Brian sez: Vocera Communications has developed what is essentially a Star Trek: TNG-style lapel communicator device that uses WiFi to transmit voice across networks.
"The Vocera Communications System consists of Vocera Server Software, residing on a customer premise server, and Vocera Communications Badges, which operate over a wireless LAN (802.11b). The badge - which weighs less than 2 ounces - includes a microphone and speaker, LCD readout to display text messages, and an 802.11b wireless radio. It can be clipped to a shirt pocket or collar, or worn on a lanyard.

"Riker to Picard!  It looks like we're not going to make the December release of the new version after all..."

"Duct-tapers -- suspension and bondage fetish goes mainstream. Duct-tapers are mainstream bondage fetishists who tape each other up to walls and ceilings "just to see if it will hold." Pervs. Link Discuss (Thanks Steve!)"

Fetish?  Not so sure about that.  Bizarre, certainly.  Amusing, definitely.
