Ok.  The picture upstreaming tool really whoops the Alpacha's ass.

Fortran 2000 Committee Draft. Richard Maine writes "John Reid, convenor of the ISO Fortran standards ... [Slashdot]

Old programming languages never die. They just keep running old banking and research applications.

Truely, why re-write the old stuff?  If it's been working for 30 years, even surviving the whole y2k thing, so it clearly isn't broken.  Why "fix" it?  Besides, the old stuff probably wasn't documented completely, or if it was the only remaining (hard) copy got tossed out when the original programmer retired and cleaned out his file cabinets two years ago.  The odds of being able to completely and accurately capture all of the functionality and nuances in a re-write are poor at best.  Just let it run.

Heading out to Eden
No more trouble in my body or my mind
Gonna live like a king on whatever I find
Eat all the fruit and throw away the rind
Yea brother, yea"

Siebel staff: We'll take cash. Employees of the software maker have spoken: They'll gladly give up stock options for cold, hard cash. [CNET News.com]

I'm a big believer in the "bird in the hand" philosophy when it comes to employment.  Keep the stock options, save your bonus structure.  I'll take the cold, hard cash, thank you!  Everytime (not an exageration) I've chosen to take part of my compensation as a bonus or stock options or whatever, I've gotten screwed.  Either the bonuses were short, or the pay date was changed after I gave my notice, or something similar.  As a result, I've grown somewhat cynical about the whole thing.
