My eraser head is acting squirley

Every computer I've had with the eraser head mouse has had some occasional wierdness with that particular device.  Sometimes, it gets a mind of its own, and the mouse pointer drifts, even when you're not actually touching it.  This becomes a big problem when you use X-Mouse, since the focus can unexpectedly change, and suddenly you're text is coming out on another part of the screen.

This isn't a problem that is specific to the P2000.  It's happened on the last four laptops I've worked with.

It may be caused by a buildup of heat as the laptop runs over time.

Personal KM - I'm starting to think a lot more about how to manage my personal information.  So I figured I'd start a category for those thoughts and let others see them and give me feedback.  M oreof us find ourselves having always on (often wireless) access to the Internet.  How can we use that power to simplify our lives and organize our personal information?  That's what my Personal KM page will try to address. What Does The Internet Look Like?. scubacuda writes "What does the Internet have to do with the network of sexual ... [Slashdot]

An attempt to accurately map the Internet by modeling it as if it were a natural system.  And why not? The Internet is a natural system, perhaps even an organism.  It was designed and built by natural organisms, and is "populated" with natural organisms, namely: humans and software designed by humans.

The work is being lead by the guy who wrote Linked, which is on my reading list.

Unfortunately, no pictures are obvious.  Perhaps there are some in the paper.  The abstract is available for free, but the PDF costs US$5.

Animated existentialism. Modern Living is a series of about 100 tiny Flash animations that use recursions, gloomy music and simple interactivity to make inarticulate yet compelling existentialist morality plays. This stuff is like Philip K Dick rendered as a series of five-second interactive animations. I've just killed an entire hour on this thing, and now I want to go watch a Pinter play. Link Discuss (Thanks, Rich!) [Boing Boing Blog]

The older stuff is just animated loops, but he got more creative with interaction in the later ones.  What a superbly useless way to spend an hour.

New York City, The Real Capital Of The USA?. Plastic::Etcetera::New York City: " As the country's official capital, it is to New York as Ankara is to Istanbul, Canberra is to Sydney, Brasilia is to Rio." Is DC the nation's capital in name only? [Plastic: Most Recent]

Culturally speaking, it is clear that New York is a much more important to the American gestalt than D.C.   Many of the social and economic trends that have occured over the last 200 years have originated there.  Wall Street, birth control, rap music, the list goes on.
