Blogging in the British Government

David Miliband, UK Minister of Communities and Local Government, writes a blog. Not only a government minister but also a member of the Cabinet, the committee at the center of the British political system. Among his RSS Feeds is "Cleaner, Safer, Greener (rss)."  He writes about sustainable communities. Recently when he started publically blogging, on March 16, he wrote:

So this is my first live post on www.odpm.gov.uk/davidmiliband after some practice.

Arianna Huffington, queen of US media blogging, says:

"Blogs are by nature very personal - an intimate, often ferocious expression of the blogger's passions."

I don't think this post quite qualifies.

But she also says "It really does become conversation".

Let's hope so.

I hope so too.

On another subject closer to home (my home), I've moved this weblog to a new operating system (OS X) and new computer, my powerbook where I work more time when I'm home. Recently we set up my older desktop with a dual boot--Debian or Windows XP. This makes a good testing environment for browser-based applications.

Only tonight I noticed my Radio Userland subscription expires in May, about a month away. Of the other blogging tools Word Press seemed attractive and I'm sure I could locate a comparison. Tentatively I'll be moving this to its own domain. More later. Do you have advice about Wordpress?
