Jaguar brings a new installation option that in many ways is the best of all worlds. When you are in the installer and have selected your destination hard drive, the options button lets you choose between three choices. Two of them are old regulars - Upgrade and Erase Install. The new choice is the Archive Install with a checkbox to preserve User and Network Settings. Many people like this option because: - You get a fresh, clean system folder - You can preserve your home directory(s) and network settings - Your old /System folder will be archived (just in case)
In the Mac OS 9 days, it would take you hours after a clean install to get your application preferences back. Archive install in Jaguar gives you a factory fresh OS install that preserves all your preferences and documents. [Ken Bereskin's Radio Weblog] |
