Thinking about Thoughts When I want to do some real thinking about craft, I cruise on over to Dennis Stevens' blog "Redefining Craft". He recently posted a paper, The Emergence of Museum Informatics within Art and Design Education. He does a quick survey of some of the issues regarding the use of modern information technology for the art historian/student. -Someone who is interested in conveying, or collecting, information about art...(hopefully to understand it -JN) He is good to point out the possible pitfalls of standard frameworks for categorizing such information. (Possible bias of the creator, inability to capture all aspects of a piece.) He even gives out some juicey links to follow up with- Archives and Museum Informatics New Media Consortium (The Pachyderm 2.0 Project) As readers of this blog know, I love this metainformation-about-art stuff. I appreciate the rewards it would bring, understand the task, and admire folks who are involved. I also like to use it to show how it effects the meaning of the art it "describes"....and I also poke fun at it! Thanks for your papers and blog, Dennis. Thanks for sticking your neck out. 9:50:55 PM |
