The Inside Word- In this month's Ceramic's Monthly, May 2006, Nancy Utterback's article "Translating from the Subconscious" includes a bit about writing words inside pots.  These were her "touch pots" and would have to be broken to see the meaning inside. Nancy also used various codes on the outside of her pots. From the article we might assume the writings on the pots are from deep experiences and with personal meaning.  Her article is well written and touches upon universal concerns.  I imagine what she wrote/writes on her pots is similar. However, we really don't know, do we. Nancy has some interesing ideas about coding meaning onto pots.  She also seems to be an interesting person..who smashes pots for other reasons. 10:52:47 AM
