Emergent Editor

Washington Post: New Kids on the Blog. Another "gee aren't they neat" piece. [Scripting News]

The author derides blogs compared to professional news organizations because they lack principles, fact checking and paid time committment.  What she doesn't get is the emergent editorial process that allows real domain experts to contribute with nested feedback loops providing fact and principle checking.  The most credible stories in blogspace emerge quickly.  In contrast to this article that sees blogging as part of the same trend as Reality-TV.

Improving Human Performance Conference

Zack Lynch is blogging the NBIC Convergence 2003: Improving Human Performance conference in a new section of Corante.  This is the next BIG wave.

The convergence of nanoscience, biotechnology, information technology and cognitive science ("NBIC") offers immense opportunities for the improvement of human abilities, social outcomes, the nation’s productivity and its quality of life; it also represents a major new frontier in research and development.

Beyond that, Zack rightly highlights the potential Social Software use of wikis at conferences.
