Major Information Brokers Face Class Action for Invasion of Privacy

Two class actions filed in federal court in West Palm Beach, Fla., allege that two of the nation's largest information brokers, ChoicePoint Inc. and Reed Elsevier -- the parent of LexisNexis -- invaded the privacy of millions of Florida motorists by obtaining sensitive personal data from the state and reselling it. The suits, which also accuse the state of failing to protect residents from criminal invasions of privacy, seek billions of dollars in damages.
